Date added: 09/16/2011 Common Question: What is going to help my dog go to the toilet without constipation?

greyhoundIt seems to be very common for dogs to suffer a bound up system. Many years ago a couple told me that their dog was constantly having her anal glands attended to by the vet. They complained of the dog dragging her behind along the carpet or grass and passing hard marbles. I asked if she was being fed any proper fibre food or fresh food. They were feeding a kibbled food and no other form of food that resembled nutrition and moisture.

The couple were heading off on a trip around Australia with a caravan and wanted to take their girl with them but were very nervous about the situation. We had two months to see if we could work to change the problem and make her feel more comfortable.

With a simple change to Phud's food and fresh meat the problem was rectified quickly because there was substance and fibre added so the intestinal muscles could push against the anal glands. Constipation can be no diferent to ourselves, eat whole grains, vegetables and fruit. We cannot rely on a dried processed ball to provide all that a dog needs. They thrive on meat cooked or raw and to compliment this feeding practice dogs also need other dietary suppliments to aid good health.

Some dogs like to eat fruits as well. My jack russell loves mandarines so I share with him. In more problematic constipation there is some other helpers such as slippery elm powder and psyllium husk (present in phud's food). Lets no forget some good excercise. A good run will really get the circulation going and help to rid the body.
